My Alarming Booking.com Experience The Westwood Glendon

An Alarming Booking.com Experience at The Westwood Glendon: Overpowering Marijuana Odor Forced Us to Leave

My daughter and I had an upsetting experience at The Westwood Glendon, booked through Booking.com. We arrived at 1041 Glendon, Unit 3198, expecting a place we could settle into and sleep. Instead, we encountered a foul odor that smelled strongly of marijuana. It immediately changed the tone of our stay.

An overwhelming smell upon arrival: This was not a faint odor that we could easily overlook. The smell was strong enough that we decided to leave the apartment for a couple of hours to let it air out. We hoped that stepping away would make a difference and allow us to return to a more comfortable environment.

Only one key was provided: When we arrived, there was just one key for the two of us. We had to call to request another. Although that issue was secondary to the odor, it added an inconvenience when we were already trying to figure out whether we could comfortably remain in the unit.

The couch and bed smelled, too: Unfortunately, returning later did not solve the problem. We tried to sleep there, but the intense odor persisted. To me, it seemed to be coming from both the couch and the bed, making it difficult to find any space where I could get away from it.

We ultimately had to leave: While we were in the apartment, I developed a headache and hives, which I associated with the overpowering smell. At that point, continuing to stay was not a reasonable option for me. My daughter and I left rather than spend the night trying to tolerate an environment that was making me feel unwell.

What made this experience so frustrating was that we gave the apartment a chance. We did not simply walk in and immediately decide to leave permanently. We spent hours away, returned, and attempted to sleep. Despite those efforts, the condition that concerned us was still there.

For me, a basic expectation of any accommodation is a clean, comfortable place to rest. This unit did not meet that expectation during our visit. An odor affecting the sleeping area and upholstered furniture should be addressed before guests arrive, rather than becoming something they must manage themselves.

Based on our experience, I would not choose this unit again. I hope management takes this complaint seriously, investigates the source of the odor, and ensures future guests can arrive to a properly prepared apartment.
